Evaluating Your Practice

For our February Coach Jacksonville meeting, we’ll be sharing with each other in an effort to inform and motivate each other. Coach Jacksonville is an association of business, executive, life coaches who support coaching. We welcome anyone and currently boast a list of approximately 250 members, including coaches and experienced coaches and new coaches.

Aaron Ellinger is the February presenter. He provided us with the following prompt and questions (below) to prepare for this month's meeting: Each of us as coaches are focused on helping our clients achieve their goals, and it’s important that we follow Stephen Covey’s advice and “sharpen the saw” on a regular basis. How are you staying sharp?

Before sharing Aaron's questions, we at Wilder Business Success want to take a moment to review what Stephen Covey's Habit 7 was all about.

The Meaning of "Sharpening the Saw"

Staying sharp refers to the way professionals stay at the forefront of their field with continual learning and improvement. To get a brief introduction to this concept from the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, watch the animated clip provided here.

Interested in a more in-depth understanding of the concept of sharpening the saw? You can watch Stephen Covey himself break down what it means to sharpen the saw in this video on habit 7.

Pursuing 2023 Career & Coaching Goals

Coach Jacksonville attendees will come ready to share and learn from each other using the following questions Aaron Ellinger prepared.

  • What degrees, certifications, certificates (etc.) do you leverage with/for your coaching? Include assessments that you are certified to deploy.

  • How much time and effort do you plan to expend in 2023 to maintain and/or achieve additional certifications?

  • What are you currently learning (reading, listening to, attending, etc.) and what do you plan to learn in Q1 of 2023?

  • How do you determine what to learn, how to stay sharp….and how much time to spend on this?

We may have time to also discuss the following business strategic questions as well:

  • What is your current business structure? If self-employed, what business structure do you use? Do you have associates? If you are employed, what is your role? Do you provide coaching services to clients outside of your employer?

  • What are your (your coaching company’s) strategic goals for 2023?

  • What will you different in 2023 than you did in 2022?

  • How can this group support and encourage you to achieve your goals?

Leaning About Coach Jacksonville

Coach Jacksonville is a community of coaching professionals and leaders that meet monthly to share ideas and support one another. The group, led by Doug Wilder, meets on the the first Monday of each month (except holidays) from 11:45 to 1:30. The topics for the roundtable discussions vary from month to month. The meetings are a great opportunity to lunch, laugh, and learn with other coaches.

Our aim is for attendees to be able to take back ideas that they can implement immediately, while simultaneously working on ideas to impact their coaching in the long run.
